Google’s New Policies and Out with the Old
There are many changes that have happened with websites and search engines over the years. The primary search engines have even changed. What does this mean to you as a business and website owner? It means there’s a lot of misconceptions and old policies that are gone and people still abide by.
Just to list a few, searching for your place of business at your place of business is going to get you good results due to the local pack in the Google algorithm. Search for your business from 50 miles away or go to a site that allows you to search from any zip code and you will see much different results. Keyword Stuffing your title is also a new change. It has been great SEO in the past and balancing it with the viewer’s experience and SEO has been difficult to say the least but no longer a benefit. Consumers do not want to click a list of keywords, rather a sentence that appeals to them and their situation. Do not copy and paste from other websites, you can be penalized. Go to reference or education material and learn, then write something that makes sense and scores well in readability and the search engine. Heavy use of anchor text has been great SEO in the past but has gotten spammy and abused with absurd numbers of internal links, etc. Now you will be penalized for not using anchor text by specific guidelines. Multiple domains and names for the same business and products has been a lucrative practice in the past and now no longer. Using multiple websites and multiple names that go to the same landing page or conversion page will be penalized by dividing the page and domain authority for main among all three. These are just some of the new changes and I hope they don’t cause you too much work.
My advice for a website in 2018 (short answer)
high traffic keywords research and utilization
Analyze keywords production and difficulty. Perhaps other keywords with slightly less difficulty and popularity might be for you.
Do not choose a domain name that does not contain your most prized keywords.
Alt tags, heading tags and anchor tags must be done and must be done right. Do not throw in 500 ahrefs on every page of your website.
PR, Branding, Social Media, NO ONE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE!!!
Update content and sitemap with Google often. Every other month at the least.
That’s all for today my friends and fellow non-css code writing web developers. LOL *raises hand* I copy and paste!
Where Do The Sales Come From?
Where do the sales come from? Well, I just love that question. Everyone is modeling themselves after successes, why not take a look at the big boys? Here we have Walmart and Best Buy, data from SimilarWeb.com. Notice how much sales actually come from social media? It’s next to nothing. Notice that their direct sales or people that go to Walmart on their own, do not outweigh their online sales by search? That’s huge to me. Two companies that everyone knows their name are both getting more sales from web searches than walk-ins? I can’t wrap my mind around it. Small businesses struggle to get a social media fan base and use blogging or boost posts just to try and get some traffic? When that’s not even where the big boys are getting their sales. Being seen on the internet when people search is crucial. It appears social media is not generating the same numbers. With that being said, skipping your website and SEO to do some internet marketing yourself is ambitious but perhaps futile or damaging. Although many pay for SEO and think they are at the top with no phone calls or emails can be frustrating as well. Realizing that Google searches show the businesses closest to you first and that is not your true ranking is a eureka moment. Many do not realize this. Utilizing analytics and trying different searches or if you have to, taking a second look at your product or service content are also good suggestions. From looking at the numbers, good SEO and great content are still the best way to sell on the web. Thank you for reading and please leave a message. We appreciate your input. walmart bestbuy
